Yerevan City Law on Green Zone Management
This municipal decision, titled "Rules for the Protection and Use of Common Use Green Spaces in Yerevan," serves as the primary bylaw regulating the city's parks, street trees, and lawns. Unlike national codes that focus on wild forests, this document is written specifically for the urban environment. It explicitly prohibits common destructive practices such as burning fallen leaves, driving or parking vehicles on green zones, and dumping waste near tree roots. Crucially, it establishes the principle of "compensatory greening," mandating that any greenery destroyed during authorized construction must be restored in equal volume and quality.
For Kanach Yerevan, this is the most practical day-to-day enforcement tool. Because it addresses the exact nuisances that frustrate residents—like neighbors burning leaves or cars parked on soil—it allows us to file precise complaints based on municipal non-compliance. Furthermore, by strictly monitoring the "compensatory greening" clause, we can hold developers and the city accountable for the replanting they often promise but fail to deliver, ensuring that the total volume of the urban canopy is legally required to be maintained.
