Public Green Council

What is it? A Public Greening Council is an independent, non-commercial advisory body designed to bridge the gap between city officials and the community. It brings together local scientists, ecologists, and concerned residents to participate in decision-making regarding the city's urban forest, ensuring transparency and expert oversight.

The Standard. Leading sustainable cities utilize citizen oversight to validate greening strategies. We need a formal, transparent platform where experts and the public review major landscape projects, tree removal permits, and strategic plans. This ensures all actions align with scientific best practices and genuine community needs.

Current Status. Currently, the municipal greening department operates internally with minimal public visibility or engagement. Decisions regarding the urban canopy are often made without community dialogue or external scientific review. Kanach Yerevan advocates for shifting to an open model where a council of activists and scientists actively reviews plans to safeguard Yerevan’s green future.
