Engagement Tools

What is it? Engagement Tools are digital and physical systems designed to empower residents to actively participate in the stewardship of the urban forest. Rather than viewing greenery solely as a municipal responsibility, these tools foster a collaborative model where citizens act as partners. This includes mechanisms for reporting hazards, requesting new planting, and volunteering for essential maintenance tasks like watering and monitoring tree health.

Why it matters for Yerevan. With thousands of trees fighting for survival, municipal crews cannot monitor every sapling alone. Engaged residents provide critical support, serving as "eyes on the street" to spot dehydration, pests or damage. This community vigilance is vital for ensuring our green spaces provide the necessary shade and cooling our city desperately needs.

The Standard. International best practices dictate that cities must provide accessible, transparent platforms for civic involvement. They recommend a centralized system where residents can easily log observations, track the status of their requests, and receive guidance on proper tree care techniques. This ensures that resident interventions are scientifically sound, helpful, and aligned with the city’s broader ecological strategy.

Current Status. Yerevan currently utilizes the "Active Citizen" mobile application, a robust tool enabling residents to report issues, request assistance, and actively care for local flora. This platform successfully empowers the community to bridge the gap between limited municipal resources and the vast number of trees requiring oversight. It effectively allows residents to take ownership of tree lives and ensure no tree goes unnoticed.
